Warrender has a strong network of parent volunteers, which is a huge asset to the Club. It allows the Club to function efficiently and the coaches to focus their energy on coaching the swimmers. Thanks to our volunteers, we are able to host our own development meets, accredited time trials and competitive meets – The Warrender Winter Meet in December each year hosts 400 swimmers from Clubs right across the country, and the WBC JAG Meet in March, recently redesigned to appeal to swimmers aged 9-15 who are looking for an alternative competitive experience to SNAGs.

By being an active part of the Club, parents are able to meet new people and gain new skills, whether as a poolside technical official or by organising events or fundraising activities.

There are lots of ways in which you can help as part of the Warrender community – split between many, the roles only need to take a little of your time. We organise Scottish Swimming training for volunteers – timekeeping courses, team manager courses, Child Protection courses etc.

You can help in lots of different ways

  • Being a timekeeper, marshall or judge at swim meets
  • Helping with Wellbeing & Protection
  • Fundraising
  • Helping with IT
  • Being a squad administrator
  • Being a team manager
  • Helping with accounting and/or finance
  • Helping to run the Club kit shop
  • Helping at Club Championships and Club meets
  • Running the computer system at development meets and Club Championships
  • Being a member of the Management Committee
  • Running cake sales at development meets

Being a Timekeeper or a Judge (STO)

A squad of 20 swimmers ideally needs 10 parents to step forward as Timekeepers. A Timekeeper training course takes about 2 hours of your time. From there, your training is on poolside, while your swimmers are swimming. The chances are you would be sitting poolside anyway so it doesn’t tend to eat into your spare time! The best place to start timekeeping is at our monthly Development meets. Anyone interested in attending the Timekeepers course should email our STO Convenor, Steph Kelly – sto@swimwarrender.com. She’ll then get in touch with dates & times of the upcoming courses.

If you are already a Timekeeper and want to consider the Turn Judge role, then get your name added to the waiting list for the next course, also via Steph.

If any timekeepers want to try out Turn Judging at Development meets, just let Steph know and she’ll try to arrange it, if there are enough Timekeepers.

If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity then we would love to hear from you – please contact our Head Coach, Laurel – laurejade.bailey@gmail.com
