Club News

Hello everyone,

We hope you had a great summer and that swimmers and parents are already settling into their squads and training sessions.  A warm welcome to all new members from the Events Team.

We are busy getting plans in place for this season’s fundraising events which we hope many of you will come along to.  These are a great opportunity to meet new people and support the Club - details coming up soon!  At these events we will be having the ever popular raffles and the kids' favourite tombolas. We have already started to gather an excellent collection of prizes and we are  really keen for you to help us to get more.  We are looking for a variety of prizes - anything from unused toys or toiletries to a bottle of champagne, cinema tickets or a spa day….

We will be visiting squad sessions over the coming weeks but in the meantime if you have anything you would like to donate or have any ideas for prizes just get in touch with the Events Team – This email address is being protected from spambots. The Events Team

I hope you all took the opportunity to watch our amazing Team GB athletes at the recent Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. It was a very successful Olympics for Team GB with a record haul of medals resulting in Great Britain finishing second in the medal table! What an outstanding result!

Warrender was represented by Keri-anne Payne and Dan Wallace at the Games, with (previous member) Craig Benson also on the team.

Keri-anne swam the 10km Open Water on Copacabana Beach, what an amazing venue! It was a very competitive race with Keri-anne finishing in 7th place at her third Olympic Games.

On the pool team, Dan Wallace was a member of the Men’s 4x200 Freestyle relay team which won a silver medal behind the United States of America. Dan teamed with Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott and James Guy; all putting in outstanding performances to claim the silver medal. Dan also made it through to the final of the 200m Individual Medley.

Craig Benson swam in the heats and semi-finals of the 200m Breaststroke, finishing 15th.

Well done to Keri-anne, Dan and Craig on their fantastic performances, we are all very proud!

Now that our Olympic athletes have returned, we get set to farewell our Paralympic team which includes our very own Scott Quin. Scott heads to London on Saturday for his prep camp and then the team fly to Rio on the 1st September. Scott will swim the SB14 100m Breaststroke.

Good luck Scott, we will all be cheering you on!!!

26-31 July, Sheffield

A very strong team of athletes travelled to Sheffield at the end of July to compete in the British Summer Meet. The meet ran for 6 days and hosted the top 24 athletes in Britain in each event.

15 year old Archie Goodburn was on fantastic form across the six days, winning a bagful of medals across a wide range of events, displaying his versatility and talent. George Clough and Katie Stark also picked up medals after excellent performances and you can view the full list of medallists and finalists below:

15-17 July, Aberdeen

Over forty Warrender swimmers travelled to Aberdeen for the Scottish Summer Meet in July. For most, this was the last competition of the season and the final opportunity to post personal best times. Swimmers were in attendance from Age Group Squad, Junior Age Group Squad, National Girls, National Boys, Junior Elite and Elite.

There were some fantastic performances across the course of the three day meet, with too many to mention them all. Congratulations go to 12 year old Natalie Jones who broke the Scottish Age Group Record in the 50 Freestyle, with an outstanding time of 29.03.
